The Handwriting Fairy!

05.14.2012 by Jessica Kings //

It’s time… the handwriting fairy NEEDS to visit our classroom again!  The students have been writing longer pieces than they’ve even written before, but it’s so sloppy that it’s starting to drive me crazy!  I need to address this ASAP!

Handwriting Fairy Freebie (Kindergarten Handwriting Tricks)

I have to say, I love the Handwriting Fairy Pack from What the Teacher Wants (below) and it is 100% my inspiration for this post!  Please be sure to visit Rachelle’s blog to get the original pack!

Now, of course… being the tech-addict that I am… I needed to make a digital handwriting fairy to complement this post!  Here is what will be waiting on our class website for the students tomorrow!

I plan on having her visit our class website quite a few times (with different messages, of course!)  I’m very excited to see the kids initial reaction to this Voki tomorrow!

I also plan on using these labels as stickers for quick notes from the handwriting fairy!

Note: This preview is hosted on Google Docs.  The font looks funny while on Google Docs, but once you download it, it will look fine!  Just open the file and click File > Download to save onto your computer!

If you want to download the labels, click the picture above!  If you want to link this Voki on your own class website, you can use the picture/hyperlink below!

Update: I showed this to my kids today and they freaked out!  The squeals of “Oh my god!  She’s actually real!” could probably be heard a mile away from my classroom!    And… the best part is… I have NEVER seen handwriting as neat as they had today!

i LOVE voki! one question…how did you get your character to occupy the whole space? and how did you get her costume to sparkle? thanks – great job – julie

Voki is the best! The sparkling dress was one of the costume options, it sparked on its own when I clicked it… I thought it went perfect with the fairy. As for getting her to occupy the whole space, when you're in edit more there's a little magnifying glass with a plus sign in it along the bottom of the screen. When you click that, you can make the Voki bigger or smaller, or move it up/down/left/right. Hope that helps!

I love your Handwriting Fairy / Voki! I was wondering if you can update what she says? As the year progresses, it seems like she would change her message – can you do that? 🙂

Absolutely! I actually change for my kids weekly with a new message! If you want to be able to customize what she says I can send it to you! Just leave me your email address!

My kids are in.love.with.this…lmao! Every time we write they want to see if she's saying anything new. I have to create one of my own so I can give kuddos to individuals.

I talked to them on Friday about how to keep their desks clean and about how the Desk Fairy might visit. Audible gasps were heard all over the room. They wanted to know if she knew the Handwriting Fairy and if she was going to talk to them. Haha, love it! So you know what I have to do now.

    Thanks for the wonderful idea!

Lol! My kids are the same way! I have her leave a new message once a week and they freak out every time! I'm so glad your kids are loving it as well! A desk fairy is a super cute idea also! My kiddos don't have desks but if they did I would totally do that too!

If you leave me your email address I can send you a copy of her that you can edit. For some reason I can't post an editable version online, but I can email it!

Can I ask you how you copied the picture of her onto the labels? I love the idea and made my own Voki but also would love to be able to just copy and paste her picture with personalized messages onto labels for my kiddies. Thanks SO much again! This is soooo much fun!!! 🙂

I love this voki! I went to a training on Voki recently and came across your website through pinterest. I was wondering if there was a way to change what she says, like to correlate what we're doing in our handwriting packets? I tried making her on my own in the Voki (to see if I could remember what I learned from the training) but couldn't find the costume she has on…I would appreciate any help or advice! 🙂
